The Institute of the North endeavors to understand the reality, richness and responsibility of the Arctic. It supports Alaska’s role as a key stakeholder in policy affecting the Arctic. It stands at a pivotal place where local and state interests are advanced within a national and global landscape.
Alaskans understand the inherent challenges of living in the Arctic, but have found wealth in the quality of life and economic opportunity there. For Alaskans to thrive in the Arctic, there must be a foundation in place to sustain communities and drive development. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Institute of the North has gained a wide reputation as the Alaska Center for Arctic Policy.
The Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN) was founded in 1983 in place of the Marine Station in Sopot which had existed since 1953.
The mission of the Institute of Oceanology PAN is to seek, understand, and communicate the scientific understanding of the marine environment and the issues related to its protection and sustainable use. IO PAN scientists and engineers achieve this by carrying out innovative, high-level scientific and technological research that further enhances our understanding of the environment, and provides expertise and new technologies which are then shared with the broader public and interested parties from the public and private sector. The Institute of Oceanology conducts scientific research in the Baltic Sea and in the seas of the European Arctic.
was created in 1984 under the Arctic Research and Policy Act of 1984 (). The act called for a comprehensive national policy focused on research needs and objectives in the Arctic. It established and its sibling organization, the Arctic Research Commission (), to help implement the act.
The International Arctic Systems for Observing the Atmosphere (IASOA) coordinates the activities of individual Arctic observatories to provide a collaborative international network for Arctic atmospheric research and operations. This research includes researchers and scientists from many different institutions across the world. Much of the Arctic data collection is done by individual observatories, scattered across the Arctic, which are sponsored by Arctic nations. These nations include Norway, Russia, Greenland, Canada, U.S., and Finland. The observatories support a plethora of Arctic research objectives.
The International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR) was established by the Norwegian Government in 2005 in Kautokeino, as a contribution to the unique international cooperation of circumpolar reindeer herding peoples. ICR is an independent professional unit, with its own board and budget. Its core funding is provided by the Norwegian Government through annual grants from the budget of the Ministry of Reform and Government Administration.
ICR is to be a knowledge base for providing, exchanging and developing information and knowledge between different reindeer peoples, national authorities and research- and academic communities at the national and international levels. The Centre will thus contribute to adding value, to improving information and to enhancing understanding for world reindeer husbandry and reindeer peoples, their traditional knowledge and their future development.

The “Malaurie Institute of Arctic Research – Monaco-UVSQ” (MIARC) is dedicated to the study of Professor Jean Malaurie's circumpolar work and research in the Arctic Humanities. Its activities are inspired by and valorize the Arctic collections of Jean Malaurie, France's most distinguished Arctic specialist, donated by him in 2021 to the Institute of Oceanography/Foundation Prince Albert I of Monaco and Jean Malaurie's extensive circumpolar scientific oeuvre and writings, as well as the egalitarian spirit of Terre Humaine, the prestigious book series of narrative ethnography and testimonies founded by Malaurie at Plon Publishers in 1955.
